How Do I Know I Need a New Roof?

June 25th, 2010

Some of the dangerous signs of roofing that you might be able to see are curling shingles. That’s when the shingles might not lay flat anymore, the edges might roll up. Or granule loss, that’s the important mineral surfacing on a shingle that keeps the water out. Maybe you’ll see more of that coming out of the gutters and into the lawn; that’s a danger sign. Another one is discolorization. Maybe, the shingles are holding water on the roof after a rainstorm. You’ll see dark areas of the roof where water is starting to penetrate into the shingles and hold there for a period of time. All those could be danger signs that say, “Hey, do I need a new roof?” If so, maybe it’s time.
